First essay

July 2, 2012

It’s been a while since my last post, or my last update of this site more generally. I’m well overdue.

The primary reason for my absence is that, rather than focusing on offering brief blog posts on a more regular basis, I’m instead focusing on composing more substantial essays on part with what I’d submit to an academic publication – in other words, focusing on quality rather than quantity. My first of hopefully many such essays is finished (or as finished as they ever get). The title of this post should give you a hint of the essay’s title, and you can find it linked below or by browsing through the Insight page.

This first essay, entitled Energy, Economy and the Impending Rite of Passage is a foundational one for this website, as in it I articulate my understanding of the relationship between an economy and energy supplies, and some elements of my vision for the future of this system as currently designed. Future essays will focus on particulars, such as the energy return of different fuels and the intricacies of rites of passage, but you gotta start somewhere. I hope to finish formatting the PDF version of this essay for those who prefer to download and print (or just want something that’s more pleasing to view, with figures embedded in the text) within the next couple days, and will upload that as soon as I can.

I’m also planning on creating another page where I offer brief answers to different questions (including questions from readers), but I’m not quite sure when that will happen. I have a lot on my plate right now, and I’m not one to rush through meals.
